My name is Clayton Johnson and I am a graduate student in Historic Preservation in the joint program at Clemson University and the College of Charleston. My interest in preserving the history and memory of tobacco barns comes from growing up on a tobacco farm, and seeing the tobacco barns in my own community being torn down.
I hope that by creating this website, I can bring an awareness to the critical need to preserve the barns in some manner, if not physically then through documentation such as a photograph. The flue-curing tobacco barn is essential to understanding the history of North Carolina, and deserves to be honored. |
